Seed Saving and Scything Session

  • The Duncairn Arts Centre Duncairn Avenue Belfast (map)

On Saturday October 17th Community Garden Support and the Seed It Union will be coming together with Belfast Seed Savers in the Duncairn for a deep dive into the amazing practice of seed saving and why, especially now, it matters more than you might think!

Showcasing local agro-ecological seed and demonstrations on how to save seed from vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruit, this free event will give you the chance to get hands on with the amazing seeds that feed our world, talk with local seed savers and share your stories of the seeds you love to sow, grow and hopefully save.

Feel free to bring your own seeds or come along to learn. We will provide envelopes and labels available to take away seed, and also give you a chance to check out the new Duncairn Seed Library.

Andrew Lintott will also give a scything demonstration at the Duncairn Wildflower Meadow. Andrew Linnot is a Heritage Mower, specializing in traditional, biodiversity-friendly land management. Rather than working with mechanical engines, Lintott advocates for the use of the traditional Austrian scythe. He leads introductory, hands-on participatory workshops that teach people how to assemble, sharpen, and wield a scythe safely and effectively. Come and help us collect seed and cut our meadow!

This is an in-person event. It is free, but ticketed - suitable for all ages.

Pre-book your free spot now!
